Fun Question

While channel surfing I often come across movies that do nothing for me and I continue on, but then there are those that I have to finish watching, no matter how many times I have seen them.  Some examples would be:

  • Back to the Future
  • A Few Good Men
  • Shawshank Redemption
  • Feild of Dreams

Just to name a few.

What movies must you stop and watch?

Life Lessons

As I live and move through life I learn so much and the sad thing is that the things I learn are things people have tried to teach me in the past.  I learn things that I should have learned through reading the Bible.  I remember my parents not nessecarily telling me life lessons but living them out in front of me and me just not getting it till now.  I want my kids to get it now but I am not too sure how to do that.

Some of the life lessons I have learned and want to pass on are things like:

  • Whether I think I can or I think I can’t, either way I am right.
  • Hard work is the short cut in life.
  • Anything worth having comes through hard work.
  • People are the most important investment you can ever make.
  • Treat others how or even better than you want to be treated.
  • Honesty and Truth are always right.
  • Life is to be enjoyed.
  • The vertical relationship with God sets the tone for all the horizontal relationships.

So, what are some Life Lessons you want to pass on and how do you do it so your kids listen and learn?

Jesus and Judas

Any thoughts on this:

Jesus knew that Judas would betray him (John 6:64)  why then did he still choose to invest in him over the next 3 1/2 years?

Just looking for thoughts

Whew – glad that week is over

I returned from vacation with 4 days to prepare Sunday mornings message.  I am a guy who deals in details for the most part during the and sermon prep is what I help others with, but this week everyone else was on vacation so I had it all.  I also promised someone in the church I would visit their family member who is in prison but it was about 2 hours away so I spent one of my four day on a prison visit.  I shared yesterday and then the deaconess board put on a wonderful social (Hawaiian luau).  I got many positive comments on the message in my heart I feel it went very well but I would for go all the comments if people will begin to invest and invite the lost.  That was the message in a nutshell.  The challenge was for the people to invite one person to join them here next week.  It is my prayer that people follow through.  It was a long, tough, week and what made it worse is I am an Olympics addict and so the nights were late and the mornings early but it was a great week, but what will make it even better is that people will show up here next week having invited others.

We all have these weeks – what is the busiest week you have had recently?

The Return

Wow – A week of hanging with the family (included are mom -n- dad and brother and his fam)  in the Outer Banks in North Carolina was AWESOME!

The Joy of seeing my kids playing in the sand, hanging with their uncle, aunt, and cousin whom they do not see nearly enough, boogie boarding, body surfing and generally having the time of their life was rewarding.  Doing the Aquarium and my son loving seeing a shark eating another fish in the tank and then seeing some other historic sites and seeing my kids loving it.  This was a fun trip.

The Joy of walking in the morning and evening with my wife on beach.  Priceless.

Laughing with my brother and dad.  So Much Fun!

The trip was great on all fronts other than the 10 hour trip back that should have taken 6 but the traffic was horrible!

This Pastor needed this week.

Now for one other item.

I went to a church today (not my own) and it was an experience.  The service had no flow.  It just did not go in any one direction.  The pastor preached for 55 minutes (35 minutes was rambling in my opinion) and what he had to say was good but he could have said it in a much better way.  There was a baptism of 2 people which during it the pastor went down a rabbit trail.  It was obvious we were the only visitors and it really felt like the pastor was preaching at us.  I counted the gospel being given 5 times during the 1 hour and 40 minute service – I tried to sit and be like an unchurched person and it felt like I was being preached at throughout.  Another problem was the Praise Team did not know the songs!  My wife at one point sang way out (I mean way out) so that others could hear and follow.  Positive side – they were friendly people who cared and treated us well – I never told them I was a pastor for a variety of reasons. Also the gospel was given which was a negative but is also a positive.

Do you ever go to other services and evaluate and try to find things to take to your church?
