Online Resources/Tools I Use To Study (A Friday Extra)

I have been asked many times about the online tools and resources I use for studying the Word of God.  Let me say at the outset that I use a smaller amount of online tools and use a larger amount of books, commentaries, and study Bibles.  Part of the reason for this is when it comes to online tools – you have to be careful because there are some pretty strange things out there but also a lot of great stuff too.  I am careful in telling people to search online for something theological because of the amount of strange sites that they could get.

Having said that,  let me share with you the links to the he online tools and resources I use.  Sometimes you need to play around in the sites to find what the features are that are great  in them – so do it when you have time.  One more thing, if you use or find  some other online tools and resources, please share them in the comment section.

Here are the links to the ones I use:

http://www.studylight.org/ – Many Translations and has a nice list of commentaries, dictionaries, and so forth.

http://www.biblegateway.com/ – Probably the most used online Bible help with a few different commentaries and such from the others.

http://www.enduringword.com/library_commentaries.html – pretty solid online commentary – I do not agree with everything but he has some good thoughts on the Word of God.

http://www.easyenglish.info/ – just found this not too long ago – still exploring it but it does a good job of making things simple – done by Wycliffe Associates  UK.

http://beta.mystudybible.com/ – This is the Holman Christian Study Bible online – has many good resources in it but it takes a little getting used to and it is still being developed.

http://www.ccel.org/ – a great resource of older things have been written and put up on the web – a huge amount of stuff.

http://www.youversion.com/ – this is a popular one but I do not use it a whole lot but on occasion.

http://bible.org/ – I use this often – a bunch of great resources and studies found here.

There are the main ones I use – so what do you use when it comes to online tools and resources?

  1. I use biblegateway.com just about everyday for scripture lookups and flipping through translations. I also use blueletterbible.org for the concordance of Greek & Hebrew word lookups.

  2. I also use Bible gateway when I just need to search for a specific scripture.

My wife and I are huge proponents of Youversion… we’re doing the “Bible in a year” read-through and it’s definitely helped us stay disciplined.. for sure!

  3. I am sort of old fashioned Jim. I still like books that I can touch. I use my commentaries. I will google for some information, using You’tube and other blogs. I have YouVersion on my iPhone but that is for home and travel.
